How to Find Joomla System Information

Joomla's System Information screen collects useful facts about the Joomla installation and its server environment. It is one of the first places to look when you need the Joomla version, PHP version, database information, configuration details, directory status, or PHP environment information for troubleshooting.

Open System Information

  1. Sign in to Joomla Administrator.
  2. Open System → System Information.
  3. Use the available information tabs/sections to inspect the environment.

Start with System Information

The main information identifies the Joomla version and important runtime details such as PHP, database, and web-server information. Record exact versions when investigating compatibility; saying only "Joomla 6" or "PHP 8" can omit a maintenance/minor version that matters.

Review PHP and configuration information

The System Information area can expose PHP settings and Joomla configuration information useful for diagnosis. Treat screenshots and copied output as potentially sensitive: server paths, environment details, and configuration values can reveal more than a public support post needs.

Check directory information

Directory-permission information can help identify paths Joomla cannot use as expected. A warning does not justify making the entire site broadly writable. Correct the ownership or permission of the specific path according to the hosting environment.

Use it as evidence, not a settings editor

System Information primarily reports the environment. Many PHP, database, and web-server values shown there must be changed through hosting, PHP, database, or server configuration rather than on this Joomla screen.

What to record for support

Usually record the exact Joomla version, PHP version, database type/version, relevant PHP limit or extension status, and the exact error being investigated. Redact credentials, secrets, private paths, and unrelated environment data before sharing diagnostics publicly.
