How to View PHP Information from Joomla Administrator
Joomla Administrator includes a read-only PHP Information view that lets you inspect the PHP runtime serving Joomla without creating a public phpinfo() file. It is useful for checking the PHP version, loaded configuration, extensions, paths, and limits while troubleshooting.
Open PHP Information
- Sign in to Joomla Administrator with an account permitted to view system information.
- Open System → Information Panel → System Information.
- Select the PHP Information tab.
Joomla's System Information help identifies PHP Information as one of the screen's five information tabs. The information shown reflects the PHP environment handling that Administrator request.
What to look for
Use the page to confirm the PHP version and to inspect values relevant to the problem you are diagnosing. Common examples include memory_limit, upload_max_filesize, post_max_size, max_execution_time, loaded extensions, and PHP configuration-file paths. Search within the browser page when the output is long.
Understand local and master values
PHP information can show both master and local values. A hosting-wide value can be overridden for the website, virtual host, directory, PHP pool, or runtime. For Joomla troubleshooting, the effective value shown for the Joomla web request matters more than a value copied from an unrelated command-line session.
The screen is diagnostic, not an editor
The System Information screen does not change PHP settings. Depending on the hosting stack, PHP changes may be made through a hosting control panel, php.ini, PHP-FPM pool configuration, web-server configuration, or another provider-supported mechanism. Follow the host's documentation rather than assuming one configuration method works everywhere.
Protect sensitive environment information
PHP Information can reveal filesystem paths, enabled modules, environment details, and configuration data useful during troubleshooting. Keep Administrator access restricted and avoid publishing screenshots or copied output without reviewing it for sensitive information.
