How to Fix a Crashed Joomla Database Table
Confirm that the table is actually reported as crashed
Capture the exact database error, table name, and time of failure. A Joomla “table does not exist” or schema mismatch is different from a storage-engine report that a table is crashed or corrupted. Do not run repair commands until you know which condition the database server is reporting.
Take a backup before repair attempts
Preserve the current database and, if the site is unstable, the site files as well. A damaged table may contain recoverable data, and repeated repair attempts can complicate recovery. If the table contains critical business records, keep an untouched copy before making changes.
Identify the database and storage engine
Determine whether Joomla is using MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL and inspect the affected table’s storage engine. Joomla 6 supports several database platforms. Repair commands are database-specific, and MySQL REPAIR TABLE is not a universal Joomla repair command.
Use the supported recovery method for that engine
For MySQL-compatible servers, REPAIR TABLE applies to particular storage engines such as MyISAM; it is not the normal repair path for InnoDB. For InnoDB corruption, follow the MySQL or hosting provider recovery procedure, which may involve server-level recovery or restoring a known-good backup. For MariaDB or PostgreSQL, use the procedure documented for that server and version.
Do not replace storage repair with Joomla Update Structure
Joomla’s System → Information → Database screen checks Joomla schema consistency. Update Structure can apply pending Joomla schema scripts, but it does not repair physically corrupted table storage. Likewise, a database-engine repair does not apply missing Joomla schema migrations. Treat these as separate problems.
Verify data and application behavior
After the database reports the table healthy, check Joomla’s Database screen, load Administrator and the frontend, and test the component that uses the affected table. Compare important row counts or records with a trusted backup where practical, and review logs for recurring storage errors before considering the incident closed.
