How to Change the Joomla From Name

Decide on a recognizable sender name

Choose a From Name that recipients will recognize, such as the site, organization, or service name. Keep it accurate and consistent with the From Email address. Avoid misleading display names that imitate another organization or obscure who sent the message.

Open Global Configuration Mail Settings

In Joomla Administrator, go to System → Global Configuration → Server and locate Mail Settings. Find the From Name field. Joomla uses this value as the default display name for site email when the sending code does not deliberately supply another sender name.

Change the From Name and save

Enter the desired display name and save Global Configuration. This change does not alter the underlying From Email address, SMTP username, SMTP host, or authentication credential. Treat those as separate settings and avoid changing them when the only goal is to update the human-readable sender name.

Send Joomla's test message

Use Send Test Mail and inspect the message in a real mailbox. Confirm that the mail client displays the new name with the intended From Email. Mail clients can cache contact information or apply their own display rules, so inspect the raw message headers if the visible result is confusing.

Check provider-side sender rewriting

SMTP providers and relays can enforce or rewrite sender identities. If Joomla contains the new From Name but received messages consistently show something else, review the provider's mailbox, alias, Send As, or transactional-sender settings. Fix the layer that is actually rewriting the identity.

Check extension-specific email settings

Contact, commerce, membership, newsletter, and other extensions may set their own sender name for particular messages. Test the site's important notification paths after changing Global Configuration. An extension-specific override is not necessarily an error; it may be intentional branding or workflow behavior.

Keep the name consistent across important mail

Use a stable sender name so recipients can recognize account, security, purchase, and support messages. If different site functions legitimately use different names, document which component owns each sender identity. Consistency helps troubleshooting because administrators can tell whether a message used Joomla's global defaults or an override.
