How to Determine Whether a Joomla Extension Is Compatible With Joomla 6
Require evidence for the exact release
Joomla 5 compatibility does not automatically prove Joomla 6 compatibility. Look for an explicit vendor Joomla 6 statement for the exact extension release.
Compare with Joomla 6 requirements
Current Joomla 6.x documentation lists PHP 8.3.0 as supported/minimum and PHP 8.4 as recommended, plus supported database versions and required PHP modules.
Check declared requirements
Current Joomla installer tooling supports minimum PHP and Joomla checks, while update metadata can constrain target Joomla/PHP/database versions.
Do not confuse extension version with compatibility
The manifest <version> element is the extension's own version metadata, not proof of Joomla 6 compatibility.
Check dependencies
Verify every required package member, companion extension, and library supports Joomla 6 and the server PHP version.
Audit code you maintain
Use current migration/deprecation guidance and development error reporting; a successful install alone does not prove runtime compatibility.
Test the real upgrade path
On staging test the exact package from the currently deployed version, including Administrator, frontend, permissions, automation, and product functions.
Keep a rollback plan
Require vendor support evidence plus representative staging success and take a restorable production backup.
