How to Find Installed Extensions in Joomla

Joomla keeps a central list of extensions registered on the site. That list is the best place to confirm whether a component, module, plugin, template, language, library, package, or other extension is installed—even when the extension does not add an obvious menu item.

Open the Installed Extensions List

  1. Sign in to the Joomla Administrator.
  2. Go to System → Manage → Extensions.
  3. Use the search field to enter part of the extension's name.
  4. If needed, use the list filters to narrow the results by extension type, status, location, or plugin folder.

The Extensions list represents extensions Joomla has registered as installed. A component can also appear in the Administrator's Components menu, but that menu alone is not a complete inventory of installed extensions.

Identify the Extension You Found

Check the extension's name and type rather than relying only on a familiar product name. One product can install several related entries, such as a component plus plugins and modules, or a package containing multiple constituent extensions. The location can also help distinguish site-facing and Administrator extensions.

Check Whether It Is Enabled

The management screens can show status for extensions that support enable/disable state. Do not assume that “installed” means every feature is active. A plugin may be disabled, a module may be unpublished or unassigned, and a template may be installed without being the active default style.

If You Cannot Find an Expected Extension

Clear your search and filters first. Search for both the vendor/product name and the individual extension name if the product installs several pieces. If files were manually copied into Joomla but the extension was never installed, it may not yet be registered in the normal Extensions list. In that special case, System → Install → Discover can look for compatible extension files already placed in Joomla's extension directories.

Use the Installed List Before Maintenance

Before updating, disabling, or uninstalling an extension, use the installed-extension list to identify all related entries and their types. This is especially important for packages and component suites, because removing or disabling one dependent piece can affect the rest of the product.
