How to Find Which Component a Joomla Page Uses
Start with the menu item
For a normal menu-driven page, find and edit the menu item that opens the page. Its Menu Item Type identifies the component/view selected for that item, such as an Articles view from com_content or a third-party component.
Use request information when available
A non-SEF Joomla component request commonly exposes an option such as option=com_content. If routing/debug information safely exposes it, this is strong evidence of the requested component. Do not disable SEF on production merely to obtain it.
Remember SEF routing hides names
Current Joomla programmer documentation notes that the system router can boot a component while parsing a SEF URL. The visible URL therefore does not need to contain the component element.
Separate component output from modules
A page can contain many module outputs while one main component supplies the central component output. Do not identify the component from a sidebar, login box, menu, banner, or other module alone.
Verify the candidate component
Confirm the candidate under System → Manage → Extensions and, when provided, its administrator interface under Components. Vendor documentation or the manifest can confirm the component element.
Handle non-menu requests carefully
Direct component URLs, Ajax/API endpoints, redirects, and dynamically built links may not map to the menu item you expected. Use Joomla debug information, request parameters, logs, or developer tooling on staging to identify routing.
Record the evidence
For troubleshooting, record the URL, menu item ID/type where applicable, component element, active template, and relevant modules/plugins so environments can be compared.
