How to Find Which Module Is Displaying on a Joomla Page

Identify the visible output

Start with a distinctive module title, text string, image, login form, breadcrumb, menu, or other content. Note where it appears in the template because the position is a useful filter.

Open Site Modules

In Joomla Administrator open the Site Modules list and search for the visible title/content. Filter by position or type. Current Joomla help lists Title, Position, Type, Pages, Access, Language, and ID as useful module-list information.

Check the position

Edit the likely module and compare its assigned position with the position rendered by the template. Joomla processes modules while the template renders module positions, and several published modules can share a position.

Check Menu Assignment

Open the module's Menu Assignment tab. Joomla supports On All Pages, No Pages, Only on the pages selected, and On all pages except those selected. The selected menu item often explains why a module appears on one page but not another.

Check visibility conditions

Status, start/finish publishing dates, viewing access, and language can affect whether an assigned module is shown. Compare these settings with the current visitor and page.

Use the module ID

Titles are not unique. Record the Joomla module ID once you find the likely instance, especially when several Custom modules or copies of one module type use similar titles.

Separate modules from the component

The central page output normally comes from a component while modules render in template positions. A visually large module is still not necessarily the page's main component.

Verify safely

On staging, or during an appropriate maintenance window, temporarily unpublish the suspected noncritical module or make a harmless visible change and reload the exact page. Restore it immediately after confirming identity.
