How to Fix a Joomla Extension Missing from the Extensions List
Check the correct list and filters
Open System → Manage → Extensions, search for the extension name or element, and clear filters that could hide it. Components, modules, plugins, templates, libraries, packages, and languages can appear differently in Joomla administration.
Confirm installation completed
Review the original installer result and logs. A failed installation can leave files without completing extension registration, so files on disk do not prove Joomla has a valid extension record.
Use Discover for manually uploaded files
If files were copied to the server instead of installed normally, open System → Install → Discover and click Discover. Current Joomla help defines Discover specifically for compatible extension files present in extension directories but not installed.
Check type, location, and package membership
Verify whether the item is a site or administrator extension and whether it belongs to a package containing several components, modules, plugins, or libraries. Search for both the product name and individual extension elements.
Do not manufacture database records
If files exist but Discover cannot find the extension, inspect manifest naming, directory placement, and compatibility. Manually inserting a row into #__extensions can leave missing assets, schemas, update sites, or configuration.
Use the developer's repair path
Compare the files and version with the vendor's supported install/recovery procedure. A clean reinstall on staging is usually safer than reconstructing installer state by hand.
Verify after repair
Confirm the extension appears in System → Manage → Extensions, then check its type-specific screen such as Plugins or Site Modules and test its primary function.
