How to Create a Scheduled Task in Joomla
Open the Scheduled Tasks manager
Sign in to Joomla Administrator and go to System → Manage → Scheduled Tasks. Select New. Joomla displays the task types currently provided by enabled task plugins. If the type required by an extension is missing, check that extension and its task plugin before continuing.
Choose the correct task type
Select the task type that performs the job you need. The task type determines the task-specific settings available in the editor and cannot be changed after the task is created. Confirm the extension documentation when several task types have similar names.
Give the task a clear title and configure its parameters
Enter a descriptive title that identifies the job and site purpose. Complete the task-specific fields shown by the selected task type. These fields come from the task plugin, so their meaning varies; use the responsible extension's documentation for settings that are not self-explanatory.
Set the execution rule
Choose the execution rule appropriate for the task. Some jobs are intended for manual execution, while recurring jobs need a schedule. Configure the interval or scheduled time offered by the editor and consider how the site's scheduler will be triggered so that due tasks have an opportunity to run.
Set status and priority deliberately
Enable the task when it is ready to run. Joomla also exposes task priority; higher-priority tasks can potentially block lower-priority work, so leave the normal priority unless the task's requirements justify a change. Do not use priority as a substitute for fixing a task that runs too long.
Save and confirm the task appears in the list
Save the task and return to the Scheduled Tasks list. Confirm the title, status, task type, and other visible settings. Joomla assigns the saved task its own ID, which can be useful for CLI execution and troubleshooting.
Test before relying on automation
Use Joomla's Test Task control or the appropriate manual-run method to verify the task can execute successfully. Review the result, last-run information, and relevant logs. Only after a successful test should you rely on the recurring schedule for an important maintenance or extension workflow.
