How to Edit a Joomla Scheduled Task
Open the task in Administrator
Go to System → Manage → Scheduled Tasks and click the title of the task you want to edit. Joomla's Scheduled Tasks documentation identifies the task title as the link used to open an existing task for editing.
Confirm the task type before changing settings
Review the task type shown for the record. Joomla's Scheduled Tasks interface treats the selected task type as fixed after creation, so editing an existing task is for changing its configuration, schedule, title, state, priority, and task-specific parameters—not converting it into a different task type.
Review task-specific parameters
Each task type can provide its own fields. Check paths, limits, recipients, extension options, or other values supplied by the task plugin. Do not assume fields from one task type apply to another; the plugin that defines the task also defines the parameters it needs.
Adjust the execution rule carefully
Review the execution rule and its schedule-related fields. A schedule change affects when Joomla considers the task due. If the task is intended only for manual execution, keep its execution rule consistent with that purpose rather than assigning an automatic interval unnecessarily.
Review priority and state
Confirm whether the task should be enabled and whether its priority is appropriate. Joomla's task list exposes task priority and published state. Higher-priority tasks can affect the order in which due work is considered, so change priority only when there is a practical reason.
Save and verify the record
Save the task and return to the Scheduled Tasks list. Confirm the title, state, and next-execution information reflect the intended configuration. If Joomla calculates a next execution time, check that it makes sense for the rule you selected.
Test after a meaningful edit
When the change affects task behavior, run a manual test when safe and verify the result. For automatic scheduling changes, also verify a later scheduler-triggered execution or Execution History entry; a successful manual run alone does not prove the external cron, web cron, or lazy scheduler trigger is working.
