How to Find Which Plugin Provides a Joomla Scheduled Task

Start with the task's Task Type

Open System → Manage → Scheduled Tasks and locate the task. Note its Task Type as well as its title and ID. The title is an administrator-defined label, while Task Type identifies the kind of scheduled work that was selected when the task was created.

Know where task types come from

Joomla's Scheduled Tasks documentation states that tasks are defined in plugins in the task group. Joomla ships task plugins and third-party extensions can provide their own. This means a scheduled task type should be traced to an enabled plugin of type task rather than to the task title alone.

Open the Plugins manager

Go to System → Manage → Plugins and filter or search for plugins in the task group. Review the plugin names and extensions that appear. If the task type belongs to a third-party extension, its plugin name, manifest, or vendor naming usually provides the strongest ownership clue.

Inspect the plugin manifest when necessary

For a difficult match, inspect the installed plugin package or XML manifest and its language strings. Joomla plugins declare their group and element in the manifest, while the plugin's code registers the task routines or task metadata it provides. Use the installed package version rather than an unrelated download.

Check whether the plugin is enabled

A task record can remain in the scheduler even when the plugin that provides its task type has been disabled or removed. Confirm the suspected task plugin is enabled. If it is missing, investigate the extension installation or update history rather than creating a replacement task type by hand.

Use extension records for deeper correlation

Advanced administrators can inspect Joomla's installed extension records to confirm a plugin's type, element, folder, and enabled state. The plugin folder/group for Scheduled Tasks is task. Keep this step read-only unless you are following a documented recovery procedure.

Document the provider before changing anything

Record the task ID, Task Type, plugin name, plugin element, extension/vendor, and installed version. Once ownership is proven, use that extension's documentation for task-specific errors, configuration, or removal. Do not disable or uninstall a plugin merely because its name looks similar to the task.
