How to View Joomla Scheduled Task Execution History
Check that your Joomla version includes the feature
Joomla introduced the Scheduled Tasks Execution History view in Joomla 5.3. On Joomla 5.3 and later, administrators can use it to review recorded scheduled-task runs and troubleshoot recurring background-process problems.
Open Scheduled Tasks
Sign in to Joomla Administrator and go to System → Scheduled Tasks. This opens the Scheduled Tasks component where task records and scheduler controls are managed.
Open Execution History
Click the Execution History button in the toolbar. Joomla's official documentation identifies this as the route to the list of past task runs.
Review the history columns
The Execution History view includes the task Title, Task Type, Times Executed, Last Run Date, Duration, Last Exit Code, Next Execution, and internal ID. These fields help distinguish a task that has not run from one that ran and returned an error.
Interpret the exit result
Joomla documents Executed: 0 as a successful execution. Other exit values indicate an error or failure. Use the exit result together with duration and run time; the history view is a diagnostic summary, not necessarily the full error message.
Correlate history with logs and outcomes
When a run failed, use its timestamp to inspect Joomla, PHP, server, cron, and extension logs. When a run succeeded, verify the task's expected real-world effect. This is especially useful for maintenance, notifications, imports, and external integrations where a scheduler success alone may not prove the business action completed.
Use history to verify scheduler reliability
Review successive runs rather than only the latest one. Consistent last-run times and successful exit results help show that the configured trigger is operating. Gaps, repeated failures, or unexpectedly long durations provide evidence for further investigation.
