How to Assign a Joomla Template Style to Specific Menu Items

Create or identify the style first

Before assigning pages, make sure the desired Site template style exists and is configured. Go to System → Templates Panel → Site Templates Styles and open it. If you need a variation of an existing style, duplicate that style and give the copy a meaningful name before changing its parameters.

Use the style's Menu Assignment controls

Open the Site template style and locate Menu Assignment. Select the menu items that should use this style and save. Joomla's template-style system applies the assigned style to those menu routes while unassigned routes continue to use their own assignment or the site's default template style.

Alternatively assign the style from a menu item

Edit a menu item under Menus and locate its Template Style field. Current Joomla menu-item forms expose a Template Style selector. Choose the intended style and save. This is useful when you are working on one page; editing the style's Menu Assignment is usually clearer when assigning many menu items at once.

Understand that Joomla pages are menu-context driven

A template-style assignment is tied to menu items, not to every possible URL string that might display the same component content. Content reached through another menu context can use a different style. If a page seems to ignore the assignment, identify which Itemid or menu route Joomla is actually using.

Check modules after changing the style

Modules are also commonly assigned by menu item and rendered in template positions. A newly assigned template style can change which positions exist or how they are displayed. Verify that menus, breadcrumbs, login modules, custom modules, and other page-specific modules still appear in appropriate positions on the assigned routes.

Test multilingual and hidden menu contexts

On multilingual sites, check the language-specific menu items and associations that visitors actually use. Also review published menu items that may not appear in a visible Menu module but still provide routing context. A hidden menu route can still determine a page's template style even when visitors never see that menu as navigation.

Verify the assignment across real navigation

Navigate to the page through the site's menus, then test direct URLs, breadcrumbs, search results, and other internal links that can reach the content. Confirm the intended style is used consistently. If it is not, troubleshoot the route and menu context before creating duplicate styles or adding template code to force the appearance.
