How to Find Which Template a Joomla Page Is Using

Start with the site's default template style

In Administrator, open System → Templates → Site Template Styles and identify the style marked as default. Joomla uses that site style as the normal fallback. Record the underlying template name as well as the style name because several styles can belong to the same installed template.

Check the page's menu item

Find the menu item that produces the page and open it for editing. Joomla menu items can specify a Template Style. If a nondefault style is selected there, that assignment takes precedence for the page in that menu context. If Use Default is selected, continue with the site's default style unless another relevant assignment exists.

Check the style's Menu Assignment tab

Open the candidate template style and inspect Menu Assignment. Joomla allows a nondefault style to be assigned to selected menu items. This is useful when the menu item editor is not the easiest place to see a site's broader style plan or when you are auditing many assignments at once.

Distinguish the style from the installed template

The style name may be customized and can differ substantially from the template package name. Open the style and note which Template it belongs to. Two pages can use different styles while still loading the same underlying template files, so do not infer a different template solely from different colors or logos.

Use Template Preview as a supporting check

Joomla's template management screens can expose Template Preview when previewing is enabled in Template Options. Preview is useful for understanding a template, but menu assignments and the actual frontend request remain the authoritative test for which style is selected on a particular page.

Inspect the rendered page when assignments are unclear

View the frontend page and inspect loaded template assets or the document markup. Paths under /media/templates/site/ or /templates/ can help identify the active template package. Treat this as confirmation rather than the only method because caching, child templates, and third-party asset pipelines can complicate filenames.

Test the exact route and menu context

A content item can be reachable through more than one Joomla route, and menu context can influence which style is selected. Test the exact URL users follow, not merely another URL displaying the same article. If results differ, review menu routing and template-style assignments before editing template files.
