How to Fix a Joomla Module That Does Not Appear
Confirm the module is published
Open System → Manage Panel → Site Modules and locate the module. Verify Status is Published. Also check Start Publishing and Finish Publishing; Joomla can automatically withhold a module before its start time or after its finish time even though the configuration otherwise looks correct.
Check the template position
Open the module and verify Position. The selected position must be rendered by the active site template for the page being tested. A position name can exist in module data even when the current template does not output that position. If necessary, use the template’s documented module positions or position-preview feature.
Review Menu Assignment
Open Menu Assignment and see whether the current menu item is allowed. Joomla supports On All Pages, No Pages, Only on the pages selected, and On all pages except those selected. If the module is limited to selected pages, confirm the exact menu item active for the failing frontend route.
Check Access and Language
Verify that the module’s Access level includes the user you are testing and that Language matches the page/site language. Test as a logged-out visitor for Public modules and as the appropriate authenticated group for restricted modules. A Super User test alone can hide an access-level problem affecting ordinary visitors.
Check ordering and surrounding template output
Confirm the module is not simply below another module, collapsed by the template, placed in an unexpected responsive region, or hidden by CSS. Compare the rendered HTML and browser developer tools. If no module markup exists, focus on Joomla visibility rules; if markup exists but is invisible, investigate template/CSS behavior.
Clear relevant caches and compare the exact route
If module caching, Joomla page caching, a reverse proxy, or a CDN is active, clear the appropriate cache after changing assignments or module settings. Test the exact URL and menu context where the module should appear rather than a similar page showing the same content through another route.
Rule out extension-specific conditions
Third-party modules can have their own filters or dependencies in addition to Joomla’s standard fields. If the standard settings are correct, review the module’s own options and vendor documentation, then check Joomla/PHP logs for rendering errors. Do not modify Joomla core to force the module to display.
