How to Find an Extension's Update Site in Joomla

Open Update Sites

Go to System → Update → Update Sites. Joomla's current Help5.x documentation identifies this as the list of sites from which installed extensions can be updated online.

Find the extension

Search by extension name and confirm its type/location. The list shows whether the source is enabled and displays its Update Site URL.

Record the exact URL

The Update Site column is the source Joomla queries for update metadata. Record it before changing anything and compare its hostname with the developer's current documentation.

Check whether it is enabled

A disabled source normally will not participate in update discovery. Determine why it was disabled before re-enabling an obsolete or intentionally held extension.

Understand registration

Extension manifests can declare <updateservers>; Joomla uses this information to associate update-server URLs with the installed extension.

Test the source

If troubleshooting, test the URL from a browser and, where possible, from the web server. DNS, TLS, firewall, HTTP-status, or vendor outages can prevent Joomla from reading it.

Refresh updates

Return to System → Update → Extensions and select Find Updates. Review compatibility before installation.
