Why Joomla Shows an Extension Update That You Already Installed
Start by confirming the installed version
Open System → Manage → Extensions and verify the version Joomla currently reports for the extension. Compare it with the version offered in System → Update → Extensions. If the installed version did not actually change, investigate the previous installation result before treating the update notice as a cache problem.
Refresh Joomla's update information
Joomla stores information retrieved from extension update sites. In the Extensions update screen, use Clear Cache and then Find Updates to refresh the available-update information. This is the appropriate first step when an already-installed update remains listed because cached update data may be stale.
Check the extension's update site
Confirm the extension points to the vendor's current update feed. Duplicate, obsolete, inaccessible, or incorrectly configured update sites can produce confusing results. If the extension requires a download key or subscription credential, confirm the vendor's required update-site configuration is still valid.
Understand the two version systems involved
An extension's manifest version is stored with the extension metadata, while Joomla separately tracks the last processed SQL schema version for extensions that use schema update files. Those values serve different purposes. A schema mismatch can indicate an incomplete database migration, but changing the schema record is not a normal fix for a repeated update notification.
Consider vendor update metadata
Joomla can only evaluate the update information supplied by the extension's update server. If a refreshed update list still offers the same release that Joomla reports as installed, check the vendor's release notes or support information. Incorrect or stale version metadata in the vendor's update feed must be corrected by the extension developer.
Reinstall only when there is evidence the package did not finish
If logs or extension behavior show that the previous update was incomplete, use the vendor's supported reinstall or repair procedure and a current backup. Do not repeatedly install the same package merely to suppress the notification, and do not manually edit Joomla's update or schema tables without establishing the actual mismatch.
Verify after the next refresh
Clear the extension update cache again, run Find Updates, and confirm the already-installed release no longer appears. Then test the extension itself. If the same version continues to be offered while the installed manifest version is correct, preserve the update-site details and report the issue to the extension vendor.
