Run Scheduled Backups Manually in QCBM

Run Scheduled Backups Now lets an authorized administrator invoke QCBM's scheduled-backup routine immediately instead of waiting for the next Joomla task poll. It is useful for testing scheduler logic or processing a Profile occurrence that is already due.

The button does not force every scheduled Profile to create a backup. QCBM still evaluates the same due-time, publication, retry, lock, and active-job rules used by the automatic task.

Where to Run the Scheduler Manually

  1. Open Components > QC Backup Manager > Backups.
  2. Find the Scheduled Backups card.
  3. Review the task status, runner setting, last run, last result, and published Profile schedules.
  4. Click Run Scheduled Backups Now.
  5. Read the returned result and then review Backup History or the active backup job.

The control requires permission to manage QCBM scheduled operations and requires scheduled-backup feature access.

What “Run Now” Actually Does

The manual control calls the same scheduled-backup engine used by the Joomla task. QCBM examines published Profiles and checks whether each non-manual schedule is due according to its exact site-timezone occurrence.

If no Profile is currently due, running the routine manually does not fabricate a new occurrence just for testing. The result can legitimately report that there is no due scheduled backup to start.

Only One New Persistent Backup Starts per Request

When one or more Profiles are due, QCBM starts at most one new persistent resumable Backup Set during a task request. Other due Profiles wait for a later scheduler/continuation opportunity after the active Backup Set finishes.

This protects the site from launching multiple expensive full-site backup operations at once.

Active Scheduled Jobs Are Continued

If a scheduled persistent Backup Set is already queued or running, QCBM does not start another copy merely because you clicked Run Now. It recognizes the active saved job and advances that job through its next bounded checkpoint.

This is why a repeated manual scheduler invocation may appear to continue existing work rather than create another Backup History row.

Manual Backups Can Defer Scheduled Creation

QCBM coordinates backup creation with persistent operation locks. If a manual persistent Backup Set is already using the backup-create operation, scheduled creation waits instead of running in parallel.

Finish, pause/postpone appropriately, or cancel the existing work before trying to diagnose a scheduled Profile as though its calendar logic were broken.

Failure and Retry Rules Still Apply

A Profile's configured retry wait applies to scheduled occurrences even when you invoke the scheduler routine manually. If a recent attempt for the same occurrence is failed, running, or pending inside the retry window, QCBM can defer another attempt.

If preflight or startup fails, QCBM records the failure and avoids launching several costly failures in one scheduler request.

How to Test a Scheduled Profile

For a meaningful test, choose a Profile whose schedule is actually due or temporarily set a safe test Profile to an occurrence that will become due. Verify the Profile is published and that its storage, Recovery PIN, archive requirements, and free-space checks are healthy.

Then run Run Scheduled Backups Now and follow the resulting persistent Backup Set through completion and verification.

Verify the Result

After the routine executes, review:

  • Last run and Last scheduled result on the Scheduled Backups card;
  • the Profile's Next and Last success values;
  • the active persistent job, if one was started or continued;
  • Backup History after the Backup Set completes;
  • verification state before treating the result as a recovery point.

If the manual routine works but automatic polling does not, the Profile logic is probably not the first place to troubleshoot. Check Joomla Scheduled Tasks and the scheduler runner instead.
