Set Up the QC Backup Manager Joomla Scheduled Tasks

QC Backup Manager 1.5.13 installs a Joomla Task plugin and uses four scheduled routines for backup automation, persistent-job continuation, retention, and entitlement revalidation. A normal installation or update creates the canonical task rows and enables the supporting Joomla scheduler components automatically.

You generally should not need to build the task set by hand. This article explains what should exist, what each task does, and how to recover when the task rows or plugin state are missing.

The Four QCBM Scheduled Tasks

A current QCBM installation expects these routines:

  • QC Backup Manager Scheduled Backups — default every 15 minutes. Checks published Profiles and starts backups whose exact site-timezone schedule is due.
  • QC Backup Manager Backup Continuation — default every 1 minute. Advances persistent manual and scheduled Backup Sets through bounded checkpoints and resumes postponed jobs when their saved resume time arrives.
  • QC Backup Manager Retention Cleanup — default every 24 hours. Applies Profile retention rules to eligible completed local Backup Sets without creating a new backup.
  • QC Backup Manager Entitlement Revalidation — default every 60 minutes. Refreshes keyless Basic, Pro, Max, All Access, and Max Preview entitlement state.

What the QCBM Installer Configures

During installation or update, the QCBM task-plugin installer:

  • enables the Joomla task/qcbackupmanager plugin;
  • enables Joomla's system/schedulerunner plugin;
  • enables Joomla's lazy scheduler;
  • creates a missing canonical row for each QCBM task;
  • publishes the canonical task rows;
  • disables duplicate QCBM task rows when needed;
  • verifies that exactly one enabled task exists for each required QCBM task type.

For Scheduled Backups, Backup Continuation, and Retention Cleanup, the installer preserves an existing administrator-selected schedule when repairing/updating the canonical task. Entitlement Revalidation is security-sensitive and is restored to its required hourly cadence by the entitlement repair logic.

Check the Tasks in Joomla

  1. Open Joomla Administrator.
  2. Go to System > Scheduled Tasks.
  3. Locate the four QCBM tasks listed above.
  4. Confirm each canonical task is published.
  5. Review its next execution and recent execution result.

Do not create several enabled copies of the same QCBM routine. QCBM is designed around one canonical published task of each type.

Check QCBM's Own Status Cards

Open Components > QC Backup Manager > Status. Current QCBM exposes dedicated integrity information for the operational Scheduled Backups and Retention Cleanup tasks, including the number of published canonical tasks, last execution, last exit code, and next execution.

The Status page also has a separate Entitlement Automation Integrity card. This card validates the QCBM task plugin and the Entitlement Revalidation task because paid/keyless entitlement depends on that task remaining healthy.

If the Entitlement Task Is Unhealthy

A Super User can use Repair Entitlement Task from QCBM when the entitlement task/plugin is repairable. That control is specifically for Entitlement Revalidation; it should not be described as a general repair button for every operational task.

If the task plugin is not registered or its files are missing, QCBM instructs you to reinstall the current extension package.

If Scheduled Backups or Retention Is Missing

When QCBM cannot find an operational task row, its scheduler status can report that no QCBM Scheduled Task row exists and direct you to Joomla Scheduled Tasks. Because the current package installer knows the canonical task titles, types, and defaults, reinstalling or updating the current QCBM package is the safest way to restore a broadly damaged task set.

If you create a task from Joomla's Scheduled Tasks interface instead, choose the exact QCBM routine you intend to restore and make sure only one canonical copy of that routine is published.

Make Sure Joomla Actually Runs Scheduled Tasks

Published task rows are only half of the setup. Joomla still needs an active scheduler runner. QCBM enables Joomla's lazy scheduler during installation, but low-traffic or tightly controlled sites may need a more dependable scheduler runner/WebCron arrangement at the Joomla level.

If next-execution times pass repeatedly without executions, troubleshoot Joomla Scheduled Tasks rather than repeatedly recreating QCBM Profiles.

Verify the Setup

After task setup or repair, return to QCBM Status and Backups. Healthy operational task cards should show one published canonical task, sensible next-execution times, and successful recent executions. The Backups scheduler card should also show the published Profile schedules and record a new last-run/result when the scheduled-backup routine executes.
