Delete File Valet Records and Off-Site Packages Safely

Deleting a File Valet item can mean two very different things: removing QCBM’s tracking record while leaving a copied package at the destination, or deleting the managed off-site package itself.

Review whether local files still exist before choosing either action. For a parked item, the off-site package may be the only remaining copy of one or more files.

Open the Delete Choices

In QC Backup Manager → File Valet, find the active item and choose Delete. The action requires the File Valet Delete Remote permission.

The dialog shows only the choices that are safe for the item’s current state.

Remove Record Only

Remove Record Only removes the item from File Valet but does not delete a copied off-site package. For a normal Copied Off-Site item, QCBM warns that the remote copy will remain at the destination but will no longer be managed here.

Record-only removal can also be available for an incomplete job that has not removed local files and has no managed remote package path. In that case QCBM removes the incomplete record and its private working files.

Why Record-Only Removal Is Restricted

QCBM blocks record-only deletion when File Valet may still be the only managed path back to files removed from Joomla. If local entries were removed during parking, discarding the record while leaving an unmanaged package would break the tracked recovery lifecycle.

Delete Off-Site Copy

Delete Off-Site Copy removes the managed package from the saved destination and then removes the File Valet record and private job folder. QCBM validates that the stored remote path belongs to the managed File Valet job before deleting it.

If the record indicates local files were removed but no verified remote package path is available, QCBM refuses the destructive action and tells you to keep the record for review.

Before Deleting a Parked Package

If the item is Parked or Partially Parked, retrieve any files you still need before deleting the off-site package. The Delete dialog warns when record-only removal is not allowed because the managed package may be the only remaining copy.

Do not use Delete merely to clear an error state. Resolve Remote Copy Missing, retrieval, or cleanup problems first whenever recoverable content is still associated with the record.

Verify the Result

After Remove Record Only, confirm that you intentionally accept an unmanaged remote copy at the provider. After Delete Off-Site Copy, confirm the item is gone from File Valet and that no required local content depended on that package.
