Search for Files with QCBM File Valet
Use File Valet’s Search Files view when you know part of a filename or path but do not want to browse the Joomla directory tree manually.
The search is intended to locate eligible files for a File Valet queue; protected, unreadable, symbolic-link, and out-of-scope paths are filtered before results are shown.
Run a File Valet Search
- Open QC Backup Manager → File Valet.
- Under 1. Find Files and Folders, choose Search Files.
- Enter text in Filename or path, such as
archiveor.mp4. - Choose Search.
- Select the intended results and choose Add Selected to Queue.
How Matching Works
QCBM compares the search text with the eligible file’s relative path under the Joomla root. Matching is case-insensitive and can match text anywhere in that path, so a term can find either a filename or a folder name contained in the path.
Search Files returns files, not folders. Use Browse Folders when you want to add an entire eligible directory.
Current Search Limits
The current 1.5.13 search scans at most 50,000 file entries and displays at most 100 matching eligible files, sorted naturally by relative path. On a very large site, an item can exist without appearing if the scan limit is reached first.
If a broad term returns too many results, search for a more distinctive filename, extension, or path fragment. If you know the directory, Browse Folders is the more direct option.
Why Some Files Do Not Appear
File Valet filters protected Joomla/QCBM paths, configured local export areas, symbolic links, unreadable entries, and anything outside the Joomla root. Those safeguards are part of the File Valet lifecycle and are not search errors.
If a file should be eligible but is missing, confirm that PHP can read it and that neither the file nor a parent path is protected by File Valet.
Review Before Queuing
Search results show each relative path, size, and modified time. Use those details to distinguish similarly named files before selecting them. After adding results, review the queue rather than relying on the search list as your final confirmation.
