Troubleshoot QCBM File Valet

Start File Valet troubleshooting with the exact item status, progress message, and Review finding. Those states tell you whether the problem is eligibility, private storage, destination access, package verification, local cleanup, retrieval, or final remote cleanup.

Do not bypass File Valet safeguards manually; many blocks exist specifically to prevent the only good copy of a file from being lost.

File Valet Is Missing or You Cannot Use an Action

File Valet requires an effective Max or All Access entitlement and the File Valet view permission. Copy, Park/Delete Local, Retrieve, Details, and Delete Remote actions have separate ACL controls.

If the page is visible but a particular action is unavailable, check the current user’s permissions and the item’s state before treating it as a storage failure.

A File or Folder Cannot Be Selected

Protected Joomla/QCBM paths, local export paths, symbolic links, paths outside the Joomla root, and unavailable items cannot be queued. Browse Folders marks protected entries; recursive Search/Large Files scans omit them.

If a normal content file should be eligible, verify that it still exists and that PHP can read it.

File Valet Says Move Managed Private Storage First

The File Valet working folder must be outside the public Joomla document root. Open Settings → Advanced Storage Tools, move Managed Private Storage and existing Backup Sets, then return to File Valet. The private folder must also be writable.

No Off-Site Destination Is Available

Create, configure, enable, and test an Export Destination in Settings. File Valet only offers usable destinations. If a previously working job later fails, confirm that its saved destination still exists and that provider credentials or OAuth authorization are still valid.

A Copy or Park Job Stops

Open the progress details and Review finding. Another backup/export/recovery/File Valet operation can block the worker. Packaging can also stop if queued files change, become unreadable, or exceed the 250,000-entry job limit. Upload/provider errors and failed remote size/SHA-256 verification also stop completion.

Correct the cause, then use Retry Last Step when the failed/stale job offers it.

The Job Is Partially Parked

The off-site package verified, but some local files were deliberately preserved because they changed, were unavailable, became protected/unexpected types, or could not be deleted. Open Details and review the affected paths. Partial Park is a safety result, not proof that the remote package failed.

Verify Shows Remote Copy Missing

Manual verification changes the item to Remote Copy Missing when QCBM cannot download the package or its size/SHA-256 does not match. Restore access to the expected managed package or provider before deleting the record.

Retrieval Fails or Becomes Partially Retrieved

Confirm enough private-storage space is available for the download, staged contents, and safety margin. Review the conflict rule, destination filesystem permissions, and any failed/skipped path. QCBM verifies the package, manifest, staged files, and each restored file checksum.

Use Retrieve again after resolving the reported issue. Skipped conflicts intentionally keep the record active.

The Item Shows Cleanup Required

The files were restored successfully, but the managed off-site package could not be removed. Restore provider access and choose Finish Cleanup. QCBM removes the remote package and clears the active File Valet record only after cleanup succeeds.

Check the Right Evidence

Use the item’s Details, Last checked time, Review finding, live progress Technical Details, Joomla/QCBM logs, Export Destination test, and filesystem free space/permissions. Those signals are more useful than repeatedly restarting a job without addressing its recorded failure.
