Check for and Install QC Backup Manager Updates

QC Backup Manager uses Joomla's extension-update system. The QCBM Status tab provides a product-specific view of update discovery so you can see the installed version, available version, update-site state, and last check before installing anything.

QCBM is delivered as a package so the component and its Scheduled Task plugin can advance together through Joomla's protected updater.

Check the Current Update State

  1. Open Components > QC Backup Manager > Status.
  2. Find the Extension Update card.
  3. Review Installed version, Available version, Update site, and Last checked.
  4. Click Check for Updates to ask Joomla to refresh update discovery for QCBM.

Understand the Result

No update detected means Joomla did not discover a newer QCBM package at the time of the check. Update available means a newer package has been discovered. Update site needs attention means the update-site record is missing or disabled and should be corrected before treating discovery as reliable.

Install an Available Update

  1. Create or confirm a recent verified Backup Set before changing production software.
  2. Return to the Extension Update card.
  3. If an update is available and your account has Joomla Extension Manager permission, click Upgrade QC Backup Manager. You can also use Joomla's normal Extensions update workflow.
  4. Allow Joomla to finish the package update completely.
  5. Reopen QCBM Status and confirm the Installed version now matches the version you intended to install.

Joomla Permission Requirement

QCBM only shows the direct upgrade action when the current administrator is allowed to manage Joomla extensions. If Status says Joomla Extension Manager permission is required, use an appropriately authorized administrator account rather than changing QCBM entitlement.

If Update Discovery Is Not Working

  1. Check the Update site value on the QCBM Status card.
  2. Run Check for Updates again after correcting a disabled or missing update-site condition.
  3. Distinguish discovery failure from installation failure. If Joomla never discovers an update, troubleshoot the update-site/update metadata path. If Joomla discovers the package but installation fails, capture Joomla's installer error and QCBM version information.
  4. Do not repeatedly reinstall the same package merely to force update discovery.

After the Update

Review Status for entitlement, Scheduled Task integrity, storage health, update delivery, and backup readiness. Then create or verify a small backup operation if the update changed backup-engine behavior. A successful Joomla installation message is important, but the operational Status page is the better final check that the QCBM package is healthy.
