Clear a Legacy QC Backup Manager License Key After Moving to Authorized Domains
Current QC Backup Manager releases use Authorized Domains instead of license-key entry for normal Pro, Max, and All Access entitlement. Sites upgraded from older releases can still contain a saved legacy license key.
You can remove that old key after the site's Authorized Domain is working. Clearing the key changes licensing state only; it does not delete Backup Sets, Profiles, destinations, history, or other QCBM data.
Confirm Authorized-Domain Access First
- Open Components > QC Backup Manager > Status.
- Click Refresh Entitlement.
- Confirm the Domain is correct and the Effective tier is the tier you expect from Authorized Domains, All Access, or another current entitlement source.
- If paid access is not yet correct, fix the Authorized Domain before clearing the old key.
Find the Saved Legacy Key
Open Settings and locate Licensing & Entitlement. When an older key is still stored, QCBM shows a read-only Legacy License Key field together with a Clear Saved Key action. The read-only field is there so upgraded sites can see that legacy state still exists without encouraging continued key-based activation.
Clear the Key
- In Settings > Licensing & Entitlement, click Clear Saved Key.
- Read the confirmation. QCBM warns that any access still depending on the old key will be removed.
- Confirm the action.
- QCBM removes the saved legacy key and immediately checks for current Authorized-Domain entitlement.
- Return to Status and verify the Base tier and Effective tier.
What Happens If No Current Paid Entitlement Is Found
If the installation cannot confirm a current Authorized Domain or other paid entitlement after the key is cleared, QCBM returns to Basic access. Your settings and backup data remain in place; only higher-tier actions become unavailable until entitlement is corrected.
If the Site Falls Back to Basic Unexpectedly
- Do not enter another old key.
- Use Manage Authorized Domains and verify the correct domain assignment.
- Return to Status and click Refresh Entitlement.
- Check the entitlement-validation message and Entitlement Revalidation task health.
- If the account-side assignment is correct but the site still cannot validate, use private QuantaCade support and include the domain, QCBM version, installation UUID, effective tier, and exact Status message. Do not include keys, tokens, or Recovery PINs.
When Cleanup Is Appropriate
Clear the legacy key once Authorized-Domain entitlement has been verified and you no longer need the old compatibility state. Leaving the read-only key temporarily during a migration is acceptable, but it should not be treated as the current activation method.
