Configure QCBM Backup Notification Recipients

QC Backup Manager sends scheduled-backup and related operational email notifications only to the addresses saved in Notification recipients. Configure these recipients before you enable unattended success or failure alerts.

QCBM does not automatically fall back to every Joomla Super User or site administrator. If notifications are enabled but no valid recipients are saved, QCBM reports a warning.

Open Notification Settings

  1. Open QC Backup Manager → Settings.
  2. Find Notifications and History.
  3. Locate Notification recipients.

Enter One or More Addresses

Enter the operational email addresses that should receive QCBM notifications. You can separate addresses with commas, semicolons, or line breaks.

QCBM trims entries, validates email syntax, and de-duplicates addresses case-insensitively before sending. Invalid entries are ignored rather than treated as valid recipients.

Choose Operational Recipients, Not Personal Convenience Addresses

Use mailboxes that someone will actually monitor during a backup failure—such as a shared operations address, backup mailbox, or responsible administrator. Avoid routing critical backup failures only to an address that may be unattended.

Understand What Uses These Recipients

The saved recipient list is used by QCBM's notification templates, including scheduled backup success/failure notices and other QCBM-generated operational messages such as off-site export failures or restore notices when those events send notifications.

Confirm Joomla Mail Is Working

QCBM uses Joomla's mailer. A correct recipient list cannot overcome broken Joomla SMTP/sendmail settings, DNS/mail-provider restrictions, or an invalid site mail configuration.

Save and Test

  1. Save the Settings page.
  2. Open Email Templates.
  3. Use Send Test on a template to verify Joomla mail delivery to the current administrator.
  4. Run a controlled scheduled backup path when you need to verify the configured operational recipients specifically.

Watch the Status Warning

QCBM's status/readiness checks warn when scheduled email notifications are enabled but no explicit recipient address is configured. Treat that warning as a configuration problem before relying on unattended backups.

Recipient Maintenance

  • Remove staff addresses when responsibilities change.
  • Use monitored shared mailboxes where practical.
  • Re-test after SMTP or domain changes.
  • Confirm external addresses are not blocked by your Joomla mail provider.
