Configure Scheduled Backup Success and Failure Notifications

QCBM lets you choose whether scheduled backup successes and failures generate email notifications. Failure alerts are enabled by default/recommended; success alerts are optional and can create more mail on sites with frequent schedules.

Both options depend on a valid Notification recipients list and working Joomla mail configuration.

Find the Notification Options

  1. Open QC Backup Manager → Settings.
  2. Find Notifications and History.
  3. Review Email scheduled backup successes (optional) and Email scheduled backup failures (recommended).

Success Notifications

Enable Email scheduled backup successes (optional) when you want confirmation after each scheduled Backup Set completes and verifies successfully.

The success notice uses the Backup Success template and can include the backup title, verified status, and the Recovery PIN assigned to that Backup Set.

Failure Notifications

Keep Email scheduled backup failures (recommended) enabled when unattended backups matter. A failure notice uses the Backup Failed template and can include the backup title/status, failure message, failure phase, storage path, available space, and storage mode.

Manual Backups Are Not the Same Notification Path

These checkboxes control scheduled-backup outcome notifications. They are tied to the scheduled/persistent backup workflow rather than being a generic 'email every backup button click' setting.

Recipients Are Required

If either scheduled success or failure notifications are enabled but no valid addresses are configured in Notification recipients, QCBM records a warning. Save explicit recipient addresses before relying on email as your unattended monitoring layer.

How to Decide Whether to Enable Success Mail

For low-frequency critical backups, success mail can provide useful positive confirmation. For frequent schedules, it can produce unnecessary volume; in that case keep failure mail enabled and use QCBM Status/History for routine success review.

Verify the Configuration

  1. Save notification recipients.
  2. Enable the success/failure choices you want.
  3. Confirm the corresponding email templates are published.
  4. Use Send Test to prove Joomla mail works.
  5. Allow or trigger a controlled scheduled occurrence and confirm the expected operational recipients receive the appropriate message.
