Create Custom HTML Email Templates in QC Backup Manager

Pro, Max, and All Access can replace QCBM's built-in HTML wrapper with custom HTML for an individual notification template. Basic continues to send professional built-in HTML generated from the editable plain-text body.

Custom HTML should improve branding or layout without hiding the operational information the recipient needs.

Switch the Template to Custom HTML

  1. Open Email Templates.
  2. Select Edit on the template.
  3. Under Format, choose Custom HTML.
  4. Edit the HTML body.
  5. Keep the plain-text body useful as well.

Supported HTML Is Sanitized

QCBM sanitizes custom HTML before saving/sending. It permits common structural and text tags such as paragraphs, headings, lists, links, spans/divs, and tables while stripping unsupported tags and inline event-handler attributes.

JavaScript URLs are neutralized. Do not build a template that depends on scripts or unsupported browser behavior.

Use Email-Safe Markup

Email clients have stricter rendering rules than browsers. Prefer simple tables/blocks, inline presentation where needed, readable typography, and a layout that still works when images or advanced CSS are unavailable.

Insert QCBM Tokens

Use the editor's token buttons for site, backup, destination, message, storage, and restore data. Preview/test with QCBM's sample values before relying on the template in an unattended event.

Preview HTML

On eligible plans, select Preview HTML. QCBM renders the template with realistic sample tokens in the preview panel so you can catch layout and unresolved-placeholder problems before saving/sending.

Tier Downgrade Protection

If custom HTML already exists and the site later runs on Basic, QCBM preserves the stored HTML but does not use it for live sending while custom HTML is unavailable. The built-in HTML renderer uses the plain-text body instead.

Test the Real Mail Path

After saving, select Send Test. Browser preview proves layout logic; a real mailbox test also proves Joomla mail delivery, subject rendering, token replacement, and email-client compatibility.
