Send a QCBM Test Email and Troubleshoot Delivery

Send Test renders a selected QCBM email template with realistic sample token values and sends it to the currently logged-in administrator's Joomla email address. It is the fastest way to separate template problems from Joomla mail-delivery problems.

A successful preview is not enough—use a real test send before relying on unattended backup notifications.

Send a Test

  1. Open QC Backup Manager → Email Templates.
  2. Find the template you want to test.
  3. Select Send Test.
  4. Confirm QCBM reports the destination administrator email.
  5. Check the mailbox and spam/quarantine folders.

Where the Test Goes

The test goes to the current administrator's Joomla email address, not the Notification recipients list. QCBM prefixes the test subject with [QCBM Test].

If the current administrator has no email address, QCBM cannot send the test.

Unresolved Tokens Block the Test

QCBM renders the subject/body with sample values and checks for placeholders that still look like {token_name}. If any remain unresolved, the test is stopped and QCBM lists them.

Correct or remove the unsupported token rather than sending a broken message.

If QCBM Says the Test Could Not Be Sent

Check Joomla's global mail configuration first: mailer type, SMTP host/port/security, credentials, sender address/domain, and provider restrictions. QCBM uses Joomla's mail service; it does not provide a separate SMTP transport.

If QCBM Reports Success but No Mail Arrives

  • Check spam, quarantine, and mailbox rules.
  • Check your SMTP/provider delivery logs.
  • Verify SPF/DKIM/DMARC alignment for the Joomla sender domain where applicable.
  • Confirm the recipient provider is not rejecting the sender.
  • Try Joomla's own mail test to determine whether the issue exists outside QCBM.

Check Joomla/QCBM Logs

If the send throws an exception or Joomla's mailer reports failure, QCBM records/logs the problem. Review Joomla logs and the QCBM operational/status information for the corresponding failure.

Template Published State and Live Delivery

Send Test is a template-management action, but live event notifications also require the relevant template to be published, valid operational recipients to exist, and the related notification setting/event to be active.

Final Verification

After a successful administrator test, run a controlled scheduled backup or other relevant event to verify that live notifications reach the configured Notification recipients and contain the expected production tokens.
