Install QCBM Receiver on Windows and Run It as a Service

Install QCBM Receiver on a Windows computer that can stay online and can reach both your Joomla site and the storage location where backups will be kept.

The current Receiver installer installs the desktop application and configures the QCBM Receiver Windows service for automatic startup. The service is what keeps collecting backups when the desktop window is closed.

Before You Install

Confirm the Joomla site is using HTTPS and has an effective Max or All Access entitlement. Decide where Receiver will store backups before pairing: a local folder, attached drive, or Windows-accessible network/NAS path.

The storage path must be writable by the Windows environment in which the Receiver service runs. A destination that works only for an interactive user but is unavailable to the background service will not provide reliable unattended collection.

Download the Current Receiver Installer

  1. Open QC Backup Manager in Joomla Administrator.
  2. Go to Settings → QCBM Receiver.
  3. Use Download QCBM Receiver to obtain the current Windows setup program.
  4. Move the installer to the Windows computer that will collect the Recovery Packages.

Run the Windows Setup

  1. Run the QCBM Receiver setup program with the Windows permissions needed to install a service.
  2. Complete the installer normally.
  3. The installer creates the Windows service named QCBMReceiver, configures it for automatic startup, and starts it.
  4. Open the QCBM Receiver desktop application after installation.

You should not need to manually create a service or build a Scheduled Task for Receiver. The installed service runs the Receiver executable in service mode.

Confirm the Background Service Is Available

Receiver should continue collecting backups even when its desktop window is closed because the Windows service performs the background work. If the application opens but unattended collection never occurs, check Windows Services and confirm QCBM Receiver is running.

If the service repeatedly stops, review Windows permissions, endpoint-security software, network access, and whether the configured destination remains available to the service.

Choose a Reliable Backup Destination

When you add a Joomla site, Receiver requires a destination folder and tests it by creating and removing a small write-test file. Do not use a removable or network path that routinely disappears while Receiver is expected to run.

For NAS or network storage, use a path and Windows configuration that the background service can access without depending on a desktop session. Verify this with an actual Recovery Package download before relying on the setup unattended.

Pair the Joomla Site

Installation alone does not authorize Receiver to a site. In Joomla, open Settings → QCBM Receiver, generate a one-time pairing code, and add the site in Receiver within the 15-minute validity window.

After pairing, confirm the device appears under Paired Receivers on the Joomla site and allow Receiver to complete at least one verified download. That end-to-end test is more meaningful than merely confirming the Windows program launches.
