Pair a Joomla Site with QCBM Receiver

Pairing authorizes one QCBM Receiver installation to collect Recovery Packages from a Joomla site without storing a Joomla administrator username or password.

QCBM uses a short-lived, one-time pairing code to establish a device-specific credential. Pairing requires HTTPS and an effective Max or All Access entitlement.

Prepare the Site and Receiver

Install QCBM Receiver first and choose a destination folder that the Windows background service can write to. On the Joomla site, confirm QCBM is entitled and the site is reachable over HTTPS.

If the site uses a firewall, reverse proxy, security extension, or external access control, make sure the Windows computer can reach the Joomla site normally over HTTPS.

Generate the One-Time Pairing Code

  1. Open QC Backup Manager in Joomla Administrator.
  2. Go to Settings → QCBM Receiver.
  3. Select Generate Pairing Code.
  4. Use the code within 15 minutes. The code can be used once.

If the code expires or a pairing attempt consumes it without completing successfully, generate a new code instead of trying to reuse the old one.

Add the Site in QCBM Receiver

  1. Open QCBM Receiver on Windows and add a site connection.
  2. Enter the Joomla site URL.
  3. Enter a useful display name for the connection.
  4. Enter the one-time pairing code.
  5. Choose the backup Destination.
  6. Set Check every to the desired polling interval. The minimum is one minute.
  7. Choose whether to enable Delete hosting copy after Receiver verifies the download.
  8. Save/pair the connection.

What Happens During Pairing

Receiver sends the one-time code, its device name, and application version to QCBM. QCBM returns a unique device ID and device secret for that connection. Receiver protects the saved secret using Windows machine-level protection.

The Joomla administrator password is not part of this process. After the one-time code has been exchanged, normal Receiver requests authenticate with the paired-device credential.

Verify the Pairing on Both Sides

In QCBM, return to Settings → QCBM Receiver and check Paired Receivers. The new device should be listed as an active paired Receiver.

In the Receiver application, the site should remain saved and begin checking QCBM for eligible Recovery Packages. The strongest verification is a successful package download that passes size and SHA-256 verification.

If Pairing Fails After QCBM Accepted the Code

Receiver treats its local credential storage as part of pairing. If QCBM accepts the code but Receiver cannot safely save the connection locally, Receiver makes a best-effort request to revoke that temporary paired device and tells you to generate a new code.

Correct the Windows storage/permissions problem, generate a fresh pairing code, and pair again. Do not keep retrying a consumed one-time code.

Pair Additional Sites or Devices Separately

Each site connection and paired device has its own credential. Generate a pairing code from the specific Joomla site you are adding. If a Receiver computer is retired or no longer trusted, revoke that device from QCBM rather than sharing or recycling its credential.
