Configure Joomla Site Settings During QCBM Recovery

During recovery, QCBM lets you review the Joomla settings that are most likely to change between environments. These settings are written as part of the restored site's configuration rather than being left to chance after the files and database are recovered.

Review them carefully for a new domain or server. Values that were correct on the source site can be wrong on the destination.

Joomla Site Name

Joomla site name controls the site's configured name after recovery. Keep the source value for a normal same-site restore, or change it when the recovered installation intentionally needs a different name.

Site State After Recovery

Choose whether the site should remain offline for review or be placed online after validation. Keeping a recovered site offline is useful when you still need to inspect routing, extensions, mail behavior, or server-specific settings before visitors can reach it.

Force HTTPS

The runner offers the normal Joomla choices: no forced HTTPS setting, administrator only, or entire site. Match this to the destination's actual certificate and HTTPS configuration.

Do not force HTTPS to a hostname that does not yet have a working certificate or correct routing. Test the recovered frontend and administrator before finalizing.

Timezone

Select the timezone the recovered site should use. This affects Joomla date/time presentation and can influence scheduled behavior, logs, and extension workflows that rely on the site's configured timezone.

Cookie Domain and Cookie Path

Review Cookie domain and Cookie path especially when the domain or subdirectory changed. Source values that explicitly reference the old host/path can prevent login sessions from behaving correctly on the new destination.

When Joomla can safely use its defaults, avoid carrying over unnecessary hard-coded cookie values.

Locked Temporary and Log Directories

QCBM does not let the browser choose arbitrary tmp/log paths. The runner derives them from the locked target Joomla root: {root}/tmp and {root}/administrator/logs.

Confirm those paths are appropriate and writable on the destination.

Advanced Configuration Options

Expand Advanced configuration options to review outgoing mail, cache handling, active sessions, the Joomla secret, and server-control files.

  • Outgoing mail: keep source settings, disable outgoing mail, or redirect test mail to one address.
  • Cache after recovery: clear Joomla cache or keep existing cache files.
  • Active sessions: reset active Joomla sessions or keep restored sessions.
  • Joomla secret: preserve the source secret or generate a new one. Changing it can invalidate encrypted extension credentials and sessions.
  • Server-control files: choose how source/destination .htaccess, .user.ini, php.ini, and web.config files should be handled.

Verify the Recovered Configuration

  1. Open the frontend and administrator.
  2. Confirm HTTPS and redirects behave as expected.
  3. Test login/logout and cookie persistence.
  4. Check dates/timezone-sensitive output.
  5. Confirm tmp/log operations work.
  6. Test mail deliberately if mail was kept or redirected.
  7. Resolve any server-control-file warning before final Close.
