Configure Exact, Partial, and Case-Sensitive Rule Matching
QCDR provides two Rule match methods—Exact phrase / whole term and Partial substring—plus an independent Match text case option. These controls determine which rendered occurrences qualify before occurrence and replacement limits are applied.
Exact Phrase / Whole Term
Use Exact phrase / whole term for most text replacements. When the Find value begins and ends with letters, numbers, or underscores, QCDR adds whole-term boundaries so the value is not matched as part of a larger word-like string.
For markup or punctuation-heavy Find values, QCDR still searches for the exact entered sequence; the word-boundary behavior applies only when the value has word-like characters at both ends.
Partial Substring
Use Partial substring when the Find value is intentionally allowed to occur inside a larger value. This is useful for carefully targeted fragments, but it also increases the chance of false positives. Narrow the Rule with page, extension, audience, occurrence, or maximum-replacement controls before enabling a broad partial match.
Case Sensitivity
Leave Match text case unchecked to match uppercase and lowercase variations. Enable it when capitalization is part of the intended identity. This setting applies to both Exact and Partial matching.
Examples
- Find
Salewith Exact matching to avoid matching the same letters inside a larger word. - Find a distinctive class fragment with Partial matching only when matching inside a larger rendered attribute is deliberate.
- Enable case matching for values such as identifiers or case-sensitive markup fragments where
ABCandabcmust be treated differently.
Reduce False Positives Before Enabling
Inspect the rendered page for repeated occurrences, then combine the match method with Occurrences and Maximum replacements per page. A correct Find value can still be too broad if the same rendered sequence appears in navigation, modules, hidden markup, or repeated content.
