Use QCFUM Custom CSS Safely
Custom CSS is a Max / All Access feature for advanced QCFUM frontend styling. It is stored separately from extension files, can be enabled or disabled without deleting the saved rules, and is not overwritten by normal extension upgrades.
Use Frontend Appearance for common colors and corner style first. Use Custom CSS only when you need selectors or styling beyond those built-in controls.
Keep the CSS Scoped
Start selectors with .qcfum-frontend whenever practical. QCFUM’s CSS helper offers common scoped targets for the page shell, headings, cards, forms, buttons, onboarding sections, User Manager records, tables, and paging controls. Scoped selectors reduce accidental changes to the Joomla template or unrelated extensions.
Respect the Storage and Validation Limits
The editor is limited to 250,000 bytes. QCFUM normalizes line endings, removes a UTF-8 BOM and null bytes, trims the final value, and rejects content containing a closing </style tag. Paste CSS rules only—do not wrap them in HTML <style> tags.
Enable, Disable, or Clear Rules
The Enable Custom CSS checkbox controls whether saved rules are delivered on QCFUM frontend pages. Turning it off preserves the CSS. To remove all overrides, clear the editor and save. The frontend also refuses to deliver CSS that exceeds the size limit or contains a closing style tag.
Downgrades Preserve but Do Not Apply CSS
On Pro or Basic, saved Max Custom CSS remains stored but QCFUM does not allow edits and does not apply it. When Max or All Access returns, the saved rules and enabled state become available again.
Troubleshoot Styling Conservatively
Confirm Custom CSS is enabled, the site currently has Max/All Access, and the selector exists in current QCFUM markup. Prefer the browser inspector and a narrow .qcfum-frontend selector before adding !important. If a rule causes a problem, disable Custom CSS first rather than editing extension files.
