Use Max Custom CSS Safely in QC Live Forum
Custom CSS is a Max / All Access feature in QCLF 1.1.27. The CSS editor stores one preserved stylesheet for the forum frontend and applies it only when the feature is entitled and the administrator has explicitly enabled it.
The stable root selector is .qclf-frontend; scope overrides under that wrapper so site-template or unrelated extension surfaces are not changed accidentally.
Enable and Save Custom CSS
- Open Components > QC Live Forum > CSS while Effective tier is Max or All Access.
- Check Enable Custom CSS if the saved rules should apply now.
- Write CSS rules in the editor, beginning QCLF-specific overrides with
.qclf-frontend. - Save, then test the real forum on desktop and mobile, including Topic, composer, Search, Notifications, Moderation, and any live views you use.
Hard Storage/Safety Limits
- QCLF accepts CSS rules only; do not paste an HTML
<style>block. A closing</stylesequence is rejected server-side. - The stylesheet is limited to 250,000 bytes (displayed as 250 KB in the editor).
- The editor strips a UTF-8 BOM/null bytes and normalizes line endings before storing the trimmed CSS.
- Saving an empty editor clears the stored custom stylesheet.
When CSS Actually Applies
Frontend rendering requires both frontend_custom_css_enabled=1 and an Effective tier of Max or All Access. QCLF reads the stored CSS from its dedicated Custom CSS row and appends it after the built-in theme CSS. If either the enable flag or current entitlement gate fails, the custom stylesheet is not returned to the frontend.
Downgrade Is Preservation-First
Dropping below Max does not delete the stylesheet. The CSS tab becomes unavailable for normal editing and the saved rules stop applying; they become usable again when Max/All Access returns. Turning the Enable checkbox off similarly pauses the stylesheet without deleting it.
Use a Narrow Scope
Prefer selectors such as .qclf-frontend .qcforum-topic-row over broad rules like a, button, or body. Narrow scoping makes Joomla template changes and QCLF upgrades much safer to test.
