Troubleshoot QCLF Installation, Menu Access, and Missing Forum Areas

When QCLF appears missing or incomplete, identify which layer is failing before reinstalling or changing database rows. Installation requirements, package children, Joomla menu access, QCLF structure entitlement, Joomla access levels, QCLF ACL, publication state, and feature/tier gates are separate checks.

The current frontend menu layout is QC Live Forum (view=forum).

If Installation Fails

  1. Confirm Joomla 5+, PHP 8.1+, MySQL/MariaDB, and OpenSSL AES-256-GCM support. QCLF preflight rejects unsupported environments.
  2. Install the full QCLF package so both com_qcforum and the task/qc_forum plugin are processed.
  3. Read any database-integrity error literally. QCLF stops when it cannot safely repair/verify its product schema; do not delete tables as a shortcut.
  4. After a successful install/update, open QCLF Status and Joomla Scheduled Tasks to verify the component, task plugin, version, and task rows.

If the Frontend Menu Item Is Missing or Denied

  1. Create/use a Joomla menu item of type QC Live Forum (main frontend, view=forum).
  2. Check the Joomla menu item access level and whether the test user belongs to an authorized Joomla group.
  3. Open the component directly only as a diagnostic; keep the intended Joomla menu/access design as the public entry point.

If Sections or Categories Are Missing

  • Both the Section and Category must be Published and pass their Joomla access levels.
  • Parent Section access applies to its Categories; QCLF custom view.section/view.category decisions also apply.
  • Current plan structure entitlement can hide preserved real Sections/Categories beyond the Basic/Pro quota. Downgraded data is retained and can reappear when entitlement returns.
  • Sample rows are handled separately from real quota and sample Categories cannot accept real Topics until converted.

If New Topic or Feature Controls Are Missing

Check the user role/sign-in state, current sanction, Category action ACL, Global→Section→Category feature inheritance, Topic/live state, and Effective tier. Discussion/Live Chat are Basic+, Broadcast is Pro+, and Watch Party is Max/All Access. A hidden button is not the security boundary; the server rechecks the action.

If Frontend JavaScript Controls Do Nothing

QCLF 1.1.27 should load canonical forum.js and hostlive.js with the release version as a cache-busting query string. Verify those files are loading and clear stale Joomla/CDN/browser caches before changing forum content or permissions.
