Configure Select and Radio Custom Field Options

Configure QCMM Dropdown and Radio options with stable internal keys so labels can evolve without changing the meaning of historical selections.

Options Apply Only to Dropdown and Radio

QCMM stores choices separately for Dropdown (select) and Radio fields. Other field types do not accept option rows; saving a non-choice field causes any former options to be unpublished.

New Options Receive Stable Keys

When a new option is created, QCMM derives an internal option key from its label and makes it unique within the field. Existing option keys are not regenerated from later label edits.

Removing an Option Is Non-Destructive

If an existing option is omitted from the editor, QCMM unpublishes it instead of hard-deleting it. This prevents a historical stored option key from being reused for a different meaning.

Ordering and Publication

Option ordering follows the saved editor order. Published options are available for current entry; unpublished options remain part of the definition history so older subscription values can still be interpreted safely.

Safe Editing Practice

  1. Create concise, unambiguous labels.
  2. Save and test the field on a test Plan.
  3. If wording changes, edit the label rather than replacing the choice with a different meaning.
  4. Unpublish obsolete choices instead of trying to recycle them.
