Control Who Can See and Who Can Subscribe to a Plan

QCMM 2.0.21 has two separate Joomla-group gates for a Plan: Who can see this plan? and Who can subscribe? These controls begin at Pro and remain available on Max / All Access.

Visibility decides whether the Plan is returned to a viewer in normal Plan browsing. Subscription gating decides whether an otherwise visible user can start the Plan’s purchase/booking path. Keeping the two rules separate lets you show a Plan to an audience without necessarily allowing every viewer to buy it.

The Two Gates

ControlPurposeTypical result when denied
Who can see this plan?Controls normal frontend visibility for the Plan. The Plan is omitted from normal Plan lists for that user.
Who can subscribe?Controls whether the user can choose/purchase/book the Plan. The Plan may remain visible but shows a view-only/unavailable state instead of a normal subscribe action.

Configure the Audience

  1. Open Components → QC Memberships & Meetings → Plans and edit the Plan.
  2. Under Member Access, set Who can see this plan?.
  3. Set Who can subscribe? separately.
  4. Leave a selector empty—or include Joomla Public—when everyone should pass that gate.
  5. Save the Plan and test the exact audience with representative normal users.

Joomla Group Hierarchy Applies

The selectors use Joomla’s authorized-group resolution. The Administrator help explicitly treats a selected parent group as including users authorized through descendant Joomla groups. Selecting Public means every visitor for that gate, not only accounts with an explicit direct Public mapping.

Basic Downgrade Behavior

Basic does not apply the Pro+ visibility/subscription gates. If a Plan already has those rules saved and the site drops to Basic, QCMM preserves the rule data but the Basic frontend treats the simple gates as open. Returning to Pro/Max restores the saved rules instead of requiring them to be rebuilt.

Current 2.0.21 Scope

The current Plan editor exposes these Joomla-group gates. Although the source reserves an internal advanced_plan_gating feature name for Max, 2.0.21 does not present a separate advanced member-state/Plan-entitlement gating editor here. Do not document or rely on controls that are not actually present.

Server-Side Rechecks Still Apply

  • Normal Plan lists filter by the visibility gate.
  • Card/detail actions re-evaluate the subscription gate.
  • Checkout and scheduling entry points also recheck whether the user is allowed to subscribe; a copied direct URL is not a bypass.
  • Sample status, Plan publication, current tier, Scheduling entitlement, existing memberships, and other workflow rules remain separate checks.

Test a Small Access Matrix

  1. Test a user who should see and subscribe.
  2. Test a user who should see but not subscribe.
  3. Test a user who should not see the Plan at all.
  4. If using parent/child Joomla groups, test a user assigned only through the expected descendant path.
  5. Repeat after any tier downgrade/upgrade so preservation and reapplication are understood before launch.
