Cancel a QCMM Membership

Customer cancellation changes the membership lifecycle state; it does not silently erase billing history or automatically turn a paid charge into a refund or account credit.

Cancel from Member Area

The signed-in customer can cancel a membership that belongs to that account when its current status permits cancellation. QCMM rejects dashboard cancellation for memberships in unsupported states.

Active Membership Cancellation

For a normal active paid membership, cancellation records the customer’s intent while preserving the existing end date. The membership becomes Cancelled - active until expiration, so access can continue through the paid term. Lifecycle processing later handles expiration and Joomla-group reconciliation at the end date.

Pending Payment Is Different

If the membership is still Pending Payment, QCMM attempts to cancel the pending checkout/payment intent and release any reserved site credit. When payment activity or database state makes automatic cancellation unsafe, the membership stays Pending Payment and QCMM tells the customer that administrator review is required rather than risking a second payment.

Cancellation Is Not a Refund

Cancelling membership access does not by itself reverse a completed PayPal payment, create a refund, or issue account credit. Those are separate Billing decisions and should be recorded through the appropriate refund or credit workflow so the commercial history remains auditable.

Verify the Result

  1. Confirm the membership status after cancellation.
  2. For an active paid membership, confirm the original end date remains intact.
  3. For Pending Payment, confirm the pending checkout was actually cancelled before attempting another payment.
  4. Handle any refund or credit separately in Billing when required.
