Configure and Use Preserve Both vs Replace Safely for Name Conflicts

This article shows how to use General Settings to choose the ordinary default conflict policy and understand the per-operation behavior: Preserve both is the safe default, while Replace safely requires Recovery protection of the existing destination before overwrite.

How to do it

1. Open Settings to review Default conflict behavior. The safest normal default is Preserve both.
2. When an operation encounters an existing destination name, choose Preserve both to create a unique destination name without overwriting the existing item.
3. Choose Replace safely only when replacement is intended. QCSB must create verified recovery protection for the existing destination first.
4. If recovery protection fails, QCSB blocks the replace rather than performing an unprotected overwrite.
5. After the operation, verify both the destination result and any Recovery record created for the replaced item.

Important limits and mistakes to avoid

• Do not bypass failed recovery protection to force a destructive action. The block is intentional safety behavior.
