Understand QCSB File Metadata and File-Type Icons

This article explains how to read file/folder names, sizes, dates and type cues, and understand the current icon families for folders, PDFs, images, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, archives, media, code, and generic files.

What metadata is for

File rows normalize provider information into a consistent Workspace listing so users can distinguish files/folders and compare attributes such as name, type, size, and modification date where the provider supplies them. File-type icons are presentation aids; the provider item and signed/current item reference remain authoritative.

Do not infer permission from an icon

An icon or metadata row does not grant an action. Download, rename, copy, move, delete, and other controls are resolved from the current role, override, provider capability, root, and item state.
