How My Private Storage Saves Per-User Layout and Folder Preferences

This article explains owner-specific saved panel layout, widths/paths where subdirectories are allowed, and why one user’s personal layout does not rewrite another user’s Workspace experience.

What you need to know

  • My Private Storage requires Max/All Access and supports user-owned FTP, SFTP, Google Drive, and OneDrive connections. Local storage remains administrator-created only.
  • Private connection ownership is enforced server-side. Private connections cannot be inserted into administrator shared Workspaces even if request/database values are manipulated.

What is personal UI state

  • Which eligible storage views the user has opened/closed in the private dashboard.
  • Stack/Pair and supported panel-width/order choices.
  • The current folder context retained for the user’s storage views where the current implementation persists it.

What preference state cannot change

Per-user layout/folder preferences are convenience state only. They do not grant a provider, expand an exact root, change private-connection ownership, add a shared Workspace permission, or override a plan gate. Every restored view/path is revalidated before use.

Verify the result

  • The owner can see/use the private connection.
  • Another normal Joomla user cannot see or use that owner’s private connection.
  • Private connections do not appear as selectable connections in administrator shared Workspaces.

Important limits and mistakes to avoid

  • Do not copy administrator or another user’s provider credentials into a private connection as a shortcut; private connections are intentionally isolated.

Troubleshooting

  • If a file action fails, retry with one small test item and read Transfer Details or the operation toast before changing global settings.
