Legacy License Keys in QCST: Display, Clear, and Migration Behavior

This article explains the read-only Legacy License Key, Clear Saved Key, immediate Authorized-Domain re-resolution, and what ticket/settings data is not deleted.

Where this fits in QC Support Ticket

QCST separates customer access, frontend support work, and Joomla administrator configuration. A QCST Frontend Agent can work tickets in the Agent Queue without being granted Joomla backend administration, while administrator actions remain governed by Joomla ACL and QCST-specific permissions.

Current 1.0.42 releases resolve paid access from the site’s Authorized Domain. The one-time 30-Day Max Preview is explicit: installing, opening, or refreshing QCST does not start an untouched preview; only the Start 30-Day Max Preview action begins the clock.

Primary location: Joomla Administrator → Components → QC Support Ticket → Settings → Entitlement & Authorized Domain.

What Clear Saved Key actually does

  • The Legacy License Key is read-only compatibility data, not the current licensing workflow.
  • Clear Saved Key clears the old local saved credential/key-derived state and immediately re-resolves current Authorized-Domain entitlement.
  • Clearing it must not delete tickets, Departments, Categories, Agent records, templates, settings, Authorized Domains or Preview history.

Important behavior and limits

  • QCST 1.0.42 uses Authorized Domains for current entitlement; customers do not paste a current license key into Joomla.
  • The one-time 30-Day Max Preview starts only from the explicit administrator action and requires a healthy canonical Entitlement Revalidation task.

What is preserved when you clear the legacy key

The legacy key field is migration compatibility data only. In 1.0.42 it is displayed read-only and masked; current paid access is resolved from the site’s Authorized Domain instead of asking an administrator to maintain a key on the Joomla site.

Using Clear Saved Key removes the saved legacy credential/key-derived local state, then QCST immediately resolves entitlement again for the current Authorized Domain. It does not delete tickets, replies, attachments, Departments, Categories, Frontend Agents, custom fields, email templates, frontend design/text settings, or the one-time Max Preview history.

Safe migration check

  1. Before clearing anything, note the current Base tier, Effective tier, Domain and Verification values shown in Entitlement & Authorized Domain.
  2. Select Clear Saved Key and confirm the action.
  3. After the page reloads, verify that the legacy key is gone and the Authorized-Domain entitlement resolves to the expected tier.
  4. Open one existing ticket and Settings to confirm normal support data/configuration is unchanged.
