Delete a QCST Department Safely
This article explains deletion prerequisites/impact, why tickets and related records must be considered first, and how to avoid breaking active routing.
Where this fits in QC Support Ticket
Departments answer “who handles this ticket”; Categories answer “what kind of issue is this.” Agent Department scope controls ticket authorization, while Category scope controls which classifications are offered for a selected Department. Keeping those concepts separate makes routing predictable.
Primary location: Joomla Administrator → Components → QC Support Ticket → Settings → Organization and Ticket Setup.
Before you begin
- Take a current backup and use a test or low-risk record first when the action can change or remove routing, relationships, or installed files.
How to do it
- Before deletion, review tickets routed to the Department, Department-specific Categories/labels/canned responses/templates, Frontend Agent scope and any inbound mailbox routed there.
- Re-route or close active work as appropriate. Do not delete the Department merely to hide it; unpublishing is safer when historical routing must remain understandable.
- Use the Department delete action only after the dependencies are handled and QCST permits the operation.
- After deletion, test New Ticket and Agent Queue so no remaining configuration points customers or Agents toward a missing Department.
Important behavior and limits
- Prefer unpublishing/retiring configuration first when you need to stop future use but preserve historical context; deletion should be deliberate.
Verify the result
- The Department appears with the intended Published state and description in Settings.
- A ticket submitted to that Department appears only to eligible Agents in that Department scope.
If it does not work as expected
- If the Department is missing from intake, confirm it is Published and that the chosen Category/field scope is compatible.
- If deletion is blocked, move or close active tickets/related records rather than forcing database deletion.
