Configure a File Upload Ticket Field Safely

This article explains maximum files, per-file MB, allowed extensions, the relationship to Portal Security limits, and protected attachment storage.

Where this fits in QC Support Ticket

The Support Portal is ownership-scoped. Registered users work their own tickets; verified guests use a signed, expiring verification/access path for the specific guest ticket. Department choice also controls which scoped Categories and Ticket Fields are offered during intake.

Ticket Fields are Pro/Max functionality in the current plan model. Field definitions can be global or Department-scoped, and file fields are additionally constrained by the site-wide protected attachment policy.

Primary location: Joomla Administrator → Components → QC Support Ticket → Settings → Ticket Fields / Portal and Ticket Settings.

Before you begin

  • Confirm the site currently has Pro / Max / All Access effective access before expecting the controls described here. A preserved configuration may still exist after downgrade even when the feature is locked.
  • Review the site-wide attachment size and extension policy first; field/mailbox-specific limits can be stricter but should not be expected to bypass the global protected-file rules.

How to do it

  1. Create/edit a Ticket Field and choose File Upload.
  2. Set Maximum files and Maximum size per file (MB) to the smallest limits that meet the use case.
  3. Review the site-wide attachment maximum size and allowed extensions under Portal/Ticket Settings; the field cannot safely be treated as a bypass around those global protections.
  4. Publish/save the field and test an allowed file plus an intentionally disallowed/oversized file.
  5. Confirm successful uploads are accessed through authorized QCST attachment links rather than a public filesystem path.

Verify the result

  • The field appears on the new-ticket form only for its configured Department scope and publication state.
  • Required/help/order behavior matches the saved field definition; existing historical responses remain readable after later field changes.
  • An allowed test file within size limits uploads and downloads through the authorized ticket path.
  • A disallowed extension or over-limit file is rejected without becoming directly web-accessible.

If it does not work as expected

  • If a field is missing, check Pro/Max effective tier, Published state, Department scope, and the selected form/Department before recreating it.
  • If upload fails, compare the file-field/mailbox limit with the global attachment maximum and extension allowlist; also check MIME/type validation.
