Upload Website Attachments When Creating a Ticket

This article explains global attachment size/extensions, field-specific upload limits, protected storage, and what a successful attachment looks like in the ticket.

Where this fits in QC Support Ticket

The Support Portal is ownership-scoped. Registered users work their own tickets; verified guests use a signed, expiring verification/access path for the specific guest ticket. Department choice also controls which scoped Categories and Ticket Fields are offered during intake.

Primary location: Joomla Administrator → Components → QC Support Ticket → Settings → Ticket Fields / Portal and Ticket Settings.

Before you begin

  • Use a normal customer/guest test flow as well as administrator checks so ownership and verification behavior are tested under the same permissions customers use.
  • Review the site-wide attachment size and extension policy first; field/mailbox-specific limits can be stricter but should not be expected to bypass the global protected-file rules.

How to do it

  1. On New Ticket, use the normal attachment control or an applicable File Upload Ticket Field.
  2. Choose only files permitted by the site-wide extension/size policy and any tighter field-specific limits.
  3. Submit the ticket. Do not navigate away while the form reports an upload/validation error.
  4. Open the created ticket and verify the attachment appears as an authorized download link in the expected ticket area.
  5. If rejected, compare the extension, actual MIME/type, size, file count and field/global limits rather than renaming an unsafe file.

Important behavior and limits

  • Never loosen attachment rules merely to make an unsafe file upload succeed; use a safe archive/alternate transfer method when support genuinely needs a blocked file type.

Verify the result

  • An allowed test file within size limits uploads and downloads through the authorized ticket path.
  • A disallowed extension or over-limit file is rejected without becoming directly web-accessible.

If it does not work as expected

  • If upload fails, compare the file-field/mailbox limit with the global attachment maximum and extension allowlist; also check MIME/type validation.
