Upgrading QCTNH Safely

Upgrade QCTNH by installing the newer complete package over the existing installation so Joomla can run the package/component upgrade scripts and preserve service state.

Safe upgrade procedure

  1. Take a current backup and note the existing Dashboard connection/health state.
  2. Use System → Install → Extensions to install the newer QCTNH package over the existing package. Do not uninstall first.
  3. Open QCTNH after the upgrade and verify the new version on Status.
  4. Run Check WebCron to confirm the System - Schedule Runner and Joomla WebCron settings remain ready.
  5. Review Recent Activity and then run Test Connection only if registration is no longer Connected or if the upgrade specifically changed service registration behavior.

What 2.0.3 upgrade logic preserves and repairs

The package enables the required System plugins, reconciles its update site, prepares WebCron, retries registration, and removes the retired development-only QCTNH round-trip task/plugin. Existing QCTNH tables and component parameters are upgraded rather than intentionally discarded.

Do not uninstall to upgrade

Uninstall invokes service deregistration. For a normal version upgrade, installing over the existing package is the correct path and avoids unnecessarily tearing down the working service identity.

What a successful baseline looks like

When the setup described in Upgrading QCTNH Safely is correct, QCTNH should open normally for an authorized administrator, native Joomla WebCron should be ready, and the Dashboard should be able to calculate scheduler health instead of reporting a discovery/configuration error. The free service may be enabled or paused independently; pause is not an installation failure.

If one of those conditions is missing, fix the local Joomla prerequisite first. Repeatedly running Test Connection cannot compensate for a missing Scheduler component, disabled/missing Schedule Runner plugin, unsupported PHP/Joomla version, or an incorrect canonical site origin.
