Understanding the Due Tasks Count

Due Tasks is the count of eligible web-runnable Joomla Scheduled Tasks whose next execution time has arrived or passed.

Included in the count

  • Task is enabled.
  • Task is not CLI-exclusive.
  • The task routine is currently available from Joomla Scheduler TaskOptions.
  • next_execution is not NULL and is ≤ current UTC time.

Excluded from the count

  • Disabled tasks.
  • CLI-only tasks.
  • Orphaned rows whose routine is no longer registered.
  • Rows without a known next execution.

If the count seems high

Do not compare it blindly to the total number of rows in System → Scheduled Tasks. Check which tasks are enabled and web-runnable, then look for a quiet-site trigger problem, repeated task failure, or stale queue after an extension/plugin change.

Do not “fix” the metric directly

The correct response to Understanding the Due Tasks Count is to resolve the underlying Joomla state, not edit QCTNH’s displayed value. Due counts change when Joomla advances task schedules; locks change when tasks start/finish or are safely recovered; contact times change after authenticated service communication.

Manual database edits to make a Dashboard number look better can hide the real scheduler problem and are not part of normal QCTNH operation.
