Understanding the System - Schedule Runner Plugin

The Joomla System - Schedule Runner plugin is the native System plugin that owns WebCron execution. QCTNH depends on it rather than implementing its own task runner.

What QCTNH checks

During install, Check WebCron, Test Connection, and other preparation flows, QCTNH locates a System plugin with element schedulerunner. If it is installed but disabled, QCTNH enables it. If it is missing, QCTNH reports “Joomla System - Schedule Runner is not installed.”

Why this plugin matters

The registered endpoint uses the RunSchedulerWebcron AJAX plugin action in the system group. That native code validates Joomla’s WebCron hash and invokes Scheduler behavior. Disabling/removing Schedule Runner therefore breaks the QCTNH wake-up path.

How to verify

  1. Run Dashboard → Check WebCron.
  2. If it reports Ready, QCTNH found/enabled the plugin and confirmed Joomla’s Scheduler WebCron parameters are coherent.
  3. If it reports the plugin missing, verify the Joomla installation itself before reinstalling QCTNH.

How this affects eligibility

The behavior in Understanding the System - Schedule Runner Plugin feeds QCTNH’s eligibility snapshot rather than bypassing Joomla. An ordinary web-runnable candidate must be enabled, not CLI-exclusive, have a non-null next execution time, and correspond to a task routine Joomla currently knows. Those filters prevent deleted/orphaned task types and CLI-only workloads from being advertised as work the WebCron path can perform.

When a task seems missing from QCTNH’s due/next-due view, inspect those eligibility conditions before changing service timing. Maximum Scheduler Delay cannot make an ineligible row executable.
