Moving QCTNH to a New Domain or Canonical URL

A real move to a new domain or canonical URL should be confirmed through Test Connection so QCTNH creates a new installation identity and registers the correct native Joomla WebCron endpoint.

Before the move

  • Complete the Joomla migration and make the new canonical URL load correctly over the intended HTTP/HTTPS scheme.
  • Verify DNS resolves publicly and TLS is valid when using HTTPS.
  • Confirm Joomla Administrator works on the new canonical origin.

Adopt the new origin

  1. Open the new site’s Joomla Administrator using the final canonical URL.
  2. Go to Components → QC Task Nudge & Health → Dashboard.
  3. Review any Site Origin Mismatch warning.
  4. Select Test Connection. This explicit action allows an origin change.
  5. QCTNH rotates the installation UUID and service secret, prepares the current Joomla WebCron route/key, and registers the new origin.
  6. Confirm the Dashboard shows Connected and the Recent Activity records origin_changed_confirmed/registration success.

Why a new identity is preferable

A genuinely different site origin is treated as a new service installation rather than silently mutating the identity copied from the old site. This protects any remaining old/production instance from clone takeover.

Preserve clone protection while migrating

The rule behind Moving QCTNH to a New Domain or Canonical URL is intentionally conservative: a copied database is not permission to move the existing service identity to whatever hostname now serves that copy. Automatic activity preserves the registered origin and records a mismatch instead of rotating credentials.

Only an administrator-triggered Test Connection from the intended final canonical URL may confirm a true move. That explicit step protects the original site while still making legitimate migrations straightforward.
